Ron McDonald C.V.

I have many years experience in the construction industry, working as a draughtsman, an RC Detailer and a developer.

I have participated in structural designs using steel, reinforced concrete and timber, and my experience has given me a sound understanding of how these structures are put together. I am proficient in Autocad. I appreciate the value of teamwork and value close contact with clients to ensure a clear and precise end product. I am particularly interested in computer technology and keeping abreast of new developments which relate to the construction industry.

Price and Myers

Price and Myers gave me the opportunity to be involved in some unusual specialist projects such as a cantilevered stone staircase which was drawn in 3D Autocad. Additionally I have been involved in many listed building renovation projects. Including Facade Retention, and a 3 storey underground extension with swimming pool of an historic building in Grove End Road, London

Ove Arup Partnership

Senior Structural Draughtsman.

2002-2003. Cardinal Place, Victoria.  I was responsible for producing the working drawings for the superstructure;

This was a 10 storey P/T concrete structure with a steel roof. The project benefited greatly from having the Architect, M&E, Contractor and Structural Engineers based in a site office. The interaction between the different disciplines led to increased efficiency of time and the cost savings were significant as problems could be solved and changes made instantly.

1999-2002 Zurich Airport.

I produced the working drawings for the superstructure of Zurich Airport, Switzerland. This included a number of extremely complicated roof structures, columns and façades.

1997-1999. 88 Wood Street, London. This was another successful multi storey project in The City for which my main contribution was the preparation of the detail drawings of the stairs. These stairs have been featured in the Architect’s Journal and Building Magazine.

I was involved in the draughting of many other projects including the Commerzbank Frankfurt for which I drew the sub-structure; Potzdammer Platz in Berlin; TowerEnvirons - the redevelopment of the area adjacent to the entrance to the Tower of London; Manchester City Art Gallery  and Manchester Concert Hall (Bridgewater)
